Abound Solar has created a comprehensive recycling program to reduce the cost of ownership for end-users and to provide a cradle-to-cradle solution for solar photovoltaics. Over 90% of the module is recycled reducing the environmental footprint of producing solar electricity. Abound Solar covers the cost of returning solar modules at end-of-life to be recycled into usable glass and semiconductor material. Funds are set aside in a third-party escrow fund for the future benefit of Abound Solar module users. The end-user only has to uninstall and package the modules as per guidance from Abound.
Abound Solar has designed the entire lifecycle of our product for sustainability from material sourcing through production and recycling:
Design — Our modules are designed for easy return and utilize recycled and reclaimed materials (including cadmium, which is a by-product of zinc and copper mining).
Raw materials — Our products are created using cadmium, a waste product resulting from zinc and copper mining. By encapsulating it in glass and creating a useful product, Abound Solar keeps cadmium out of the environment.
Manufacturing — Our continuous, dry manufacturing process results in significantly higher material utilization than comparable techniques. This reduces waste and energy usage.
End-use — Once installed, Abound Solar products will generate clean, renewable electricity with no additional inputs for upwards of 25 years.
Collection — Abound Solar pre-funds the cost of collection of our solar modules at end-of-life. Customers only have to uninstall our products.
Recycling — Our industry-leading module recycling program ensures cradle-to-cradle use of raw materials and complete environmental stewardship. Abound Solar has engaged the industry-leading refining vendor to disassemble our PV modules, separating the glass from the semiconductor compounds. Each component is then reprocessed and refined for use in other applications. Over 90% of the weight of each module is recycled.
All products sold in accordance to Abound Solar customer agreements will be reprocessed by Abound Solar. If you have Abound Solar modules that you would like to recycle, please contact us to arrange for packaging, shipment, and processing. Help us in ensuring environmental sustainability by not disposing Abound Solar products in landfills or in any other waste streams.
