U.S. Department of Energy awards AVA Solar $3 million

Fort Collins, Colorado — June 21, 2007 — AVA Solar, Inc., a manufacturer of advanced, low-cost thin film photovoltaic modules, today announced that it was awarded $3 million in funding over the next 18 months under the Solar America Initiative's, Photovoltaic Technology Incubator Program. Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman announced the awards yesterday (http://www.energy.gov/news/5137.htm). The award will support AVA Solar's efforts to ramp up to full scale production by the end of 2008.
"These funds will help us get our technology to market faster — we appreciate the Department of Energy's strong endorsement of our technology and approach," said Pascal Noronha, AVA Solar's CEO.

"We perfected a highly scalable process in the lab at CSU and are running ahead of schedule to get into commercial production," added Dr. W.S. Sampath, founder of AVA Solar and head of Colorado State University's Materials Engineering Laboratory.

With the support of the DOE, AVA Solar is taking its high efficiency, low cost technology from the lab to the market in record time. The company was founded in January 2007 and will begin pilot production on its initial 3 megawatt line by the end of this year. By the end of 2008, the company will commence full scale commercial production.
